Terms of Service
Effective: October 23, 2026 · Last updated: October 23, 2026
These terms are an agreement between you and Lawson Mobile Tax. They cover our website, client portal, intake forms and tax preparation services. When you create an account or submit an intake form, we ask you to agree to these terms and to confirm you received our Privacy Policy.
1. Who we are
Lawson Mobile Tax is a tax preparation business operated by Lawson Mobile Tax LLC. We work virtually: online, through our client portal and by phone, or by video if you prefer. We are not the IRS or any government agency, and the IRS doesn't endorse us. Formality Pro, Inc. is a separate company owned by our owner. It isn't a party to these terms.
2. Our services
Depending on what we confirm with you in writing at the start of your engagement, our services may include:
- Preparing and e-filing federal and state individual income tax returns.
- Other services listed on our services page, as confirmed with you in writing.
- Help gathering and organizing your documents.
- Help understanding IRS or state letters about returns we prepared, within the limits in section 6.
- Optional mobile visits where available (see Mobile visits).
- VIP client perks. VIP clients get priority booking, a direct line to their preparer, a mid-year check-up, and a family discount of up to $100 off.
Before we begin, we'll tell you what's included and what it costs. Anything else needs a separate agreement.
3. Who can use our services
- You must be at least 18 and able to enter into a contract. A parent or legal guardian must handle services for anyone younger. We review returns for clients under 18 case by case as part of our due diligence process. The fee is typically $199, the same as our student returns.
- If you're married and filing jointly, both spouses must review and sign the return.
- If you act for someone else, such as under a power of attorney, you confirm you have the legal authority to do so.
4. Mobile visits
In-person mobile visits are an optional paid add-on for clients who need them, such as elderly clients. They are available only where the assigned preparer is located, for an added fee of $100 per visit. We'll tell you before you book whether a mobile visit is available where you are. Everything else we do is available virtually.
5. Your responsibilities
You agree to:
- Give us complete, accurate and truthful information and documents, including all of your income, and tell us if anything changes.
- Keep the records that support your return, such as receipts, mileage logs and proof of dependents.
- Review your return carefully before you sign it. You're responsible for the information on your return, even when a paid preparer prepares it.
- Answer the due-diligence questions we're required to ask, for example about dependents and certain credits, and provide proof when asked.
- Send tax documents and ID numbers only through the secure portal, never by regular email or text.
- Keep your portal login private, and tell us right away if you think someone else has used it.
- Respond promptly to IRS or state letters, and send us a copy of any letter about a return we prepared.
- Pay our fees as agreed.
We may decline or stop work on a return if information appears false or incomplete, if we can't verify your identity, or if going ahead would break the law or professional rules.
6. What we do and don't do
- We prepare returns based on the information you give us and on tax law as it stands when we prepare them. We don't audit or independently verify your documents, except for checks the law requires.
- Representation before the IRS depends on credentials. Returns are prepared by paid tax preparers with a valid IRS Preparer Tax Identification Number (PTIN). Some preparers may hold additional credentials, which we list only when verified. A preparer who holds only a PTIN can't represent you before the IRS in audits, collections or appeals. Preparers in the IRS Annual Filing Season Program may represent you only in limited situations about returns they prepared and signed. Enrolled agents, CPAs and attorneys have unlimited representation rights. We'll tell you in writing who can help you with an IRS matter and what they can do.
- We don't give legal, investment or financial planning advice. Lawson Mobile Tax isn't a law firm or a CPA firm.
7. Fees and payment
- Pricing. Our advertised prices are "starting at" prices for the simplest version of each service. Your final price depends on your forms, schedules and states. See our services page for current pricing. We'll tell you your total fee and get your OK before we file.
- Not based on your refund. Our fee never depends on the size of your refund and is never a percentage of it.
- How to pay. You can pay by card through our payment processor, Square. If you choose and qualify, you can have the fee taken out of your refund through a bank product offered through Refund Advantage (see section 8). That option may carry bank fees, which we'll explain before you choose.
- We never handle your refund. We never cash, endorse or negotiate your government refund check, and we never have your refund deposited into a Lawson Mobile Tax account.
Cancellations and fee refunds
Our fees are non-refundable once work begins. Once we begin work on your return, our tax preparation fee isn't refunded, even if you cancel before we file. This doesn't limit any right you have under the law, or under a bank product's own terms. Fees for Lawson Certified preparer packages are covered by the preparer agreement, not this section.
8. Refund transfers and refund advances
If we offer them and you qualify, you may choose to apply for a refund transfer or a refund advance. We offer them through Refund Advantage. These products are provided by Pathward, N.A., Member FDIC, not by Lawson Mobile Tax and not by the IRS. The bank's own terms apply: https://www.refund-advantage.com/terms-conditions/.
- A refund advance is a loan from Pathward, N.A. It is not your tax refund and doesn't make your refund arrive faster. Fees are shown on the bank's documents.
- Approval isn't guaranteed. The bank decides under its own terms, which you'll receive and sign separately.
- If you're approved, your IRS refund goes to the bank first. The bank takes out the loan amount and any agreed fees, then sends you the rest.
- If your refund is smaller or later than expected, you may still owe the bank under its terms.
- We'll explain all fees before you apply. You can always skip these products and get your refund directly from the IRS by direct deposit or check.
- To apply, you must sign a separate consent letting us send your tax return information to the bank.
- The IRS isn't involved in or responsible for refund loans, refund transfers or other bank products.
9. Your tax return information
We protect your information as described in our Privacy Policy and as federal law requires. We use your tax return information to prepare your return, and for anything else only with your separate, signed consent. Those consents are always optional. See section 7216 in our Privacy Policy.
10. No guarantee of refunds or timing
- We can't guarantee that you'll get a refund, how much it will be or when it will arrive. The IRS and state agencies decide your refund and may adjust, delay or offset it, for example for past-due debts or identity checks. As the IRS says, "There are no guarantees that the Department of the Treasury deposits refunds within a specified time or in their entirety."
- Any refund estimate we give you is an estimate, not a promise.
11. Calls and our AI assistant
- Our AI assistant, Mia, may answer or make calls. Mia is an AI, not a person. It always tells you it's an AI, and you can ask for a person at any time.
- We place AI voice calls to you only with your prior written permission. To stop them, say "stop calling," use the opt-out option on the call, or call (855) 722-8700.
- Calls on our phone lines, including calls handled by our AI assistant, are transcribed for our team. Call logs and texts, including call transcripts and summaries, are kept for 90 days.
- Our only public phone number is (855) 722-8700.
12. Emails and texts
- Emails about your return are part of our service. Tax tips and reminder emails are optional and need a separate, unchecked box: "Yes, email me tax tips and reminders about my tax return from Lawson Mobile Tax." You can unsubscribe at any time.
- Texts are optional and covered by our Text Message Terms and the text messages section of our Privacy Policy. Consent to texts is not a condition of purchase. Reply STOP to any text to stop.
13. Electronic records and signatures
To use our online services, we ask for your consent to get documents electronically and to sign them electronically. Before you consent, please note:
- What's covered: engagement letters, privacy notices, consent forms, invoices, copies of your returns and other notices about your engagement, delivered through our portal or by email.
- Paper copies: you can ask for a paper copy of any document at any time by calling (855) 722-8700 or emailing [email protected]. There is no fee for paper copies.
- Withdrawing consent: you can withdraw your consent at any time the same way. We'll then switch to paper delivery, which may slow down your service. Withdrawing doesn't undo anything you already signed.
- Updating your contact details: change your email address in the portal or tell us.
- What you need: a device with internet access, a current web browser, a valid email address, a PDF reader, and a way to save or print documents. If these requirements change in a way that could affect you, we'll tell you, and you can withdraw consent without a fee.
- When you check the electronic records consent box in our portal, you confirm that you can open and read documents in the format we use.
Your electronic signature on our forms has the same effect as a handwritten one. IRS e-file signature forms, such as Form 8879, follow the IRS's own signature and identity-verification rules.
14. Referral program
If you take part in our referral program, these rules apply:
- If you share your referral link or code and may get a reward, you must clearly tell people that.
- We won't tell you whether someone you referred became a client, or pay a reward that reveals it, unless that person signs a separate, optional consent.
- We don't share referral or client information with Formality Pro, Inc. or anyone else for their marketing.
15. Using our website
Please don't misuse our website or portal. That means don't try to access other people's information, upload harmful code or use automated tools to scrape the site. We may update or pause the website at any time.
16. Lawson Certified training
Lawson Certified is our own internal training program. It is not an IRS credential, license or endorsement. It is included with every preparer package. Every package gets the same full academy access once enrollment is complete. The split is the preparer's share, then our share, of the tax preparation fees we actually collect on that preparer's returns.
- 50/50 split: no upfront cost.
- 60/40 split: $499 annual package fee, per tax season.
- 70/30 split: $799 annual package fee, per tax season.
- 80/20 split: $1,399 annual package fee, per tax season.
Package fees for paid packages are annual: each fee covers one tax season, and paid packages renew annually. Early renewal may be offered at a discount at the Company's discretion. Fees are paid in full through Square at signup, before training starts. There are no payment plans, and package fees are non-refundable. Academy access begins once enrollment is complete, which for paid packages means after Square confirms payment. Each package has its own written preparer agreement, signed before you start. Preparers work as independent contractors, not employees. Your share is paid one week after the client's refund funds; if a client's refund does not fund, no share is paid for that return. The agreement renews annually. A preparer may leave after one year, and the non-solicit obligations apply during that first year only. The agreement also covers changing packages. When it ends, you stop using our systems and return or delete any client information.
The academy is delivered online: 64 lessons with a quiz after every lesson, 10 module quizzes and a final exam, across Levels 1 to 3 with badges and certificates, and software training in TaxSlayer Pro. Lessons by phone are being tested and will be added when ready. The academy's coach, Mia, is an AI, not a human trainer. Mock-audit drills are training exercises, not real audits or IRS representation.
Completing the training doesn't make anyone an IRS-credentialed preparer, enrolled agent, CPA or attorney. It doesn't guarantee a job, income or any IRS approval.
17. Our content
The content and branding on our website belong to Lawson Mobile Tax. Website content is general information, not tax advice for your situation. You may view and print it for personal use.
18. Disclaimers
Our services are provided as described in your engagement with us. To the fullest extent the law allows, we make no other warranties, express or implied, about the website or the results of any tax return. Some limits may not apply where the law does not allow them.
19. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, Lawson Mobile Tax LLC is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data, or goodwill. Our total liability for any claim about our services or website is limited to the fees you paid us for the engagement that the claim is about. These limits do not apply where the law does not allow them, including any rights you have that cannot be waived.
20. Indemnity
You agree to pay for losses, penalties, interest, and reasonable costs we incur because of inaccurate or incomplete information you gave us, or because you broke these terms, except to the extent we caused the problem by our own failure to follow professional rules that apply to us.
21. Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of Nevada, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Any court action about these terms or our services must be brought in the state or federal courts in Clark County, Nevada. There is no arbitration requirement. If you have a dispute, please call us first at (855) 722-8700 so we can try to resolve it informally.
22. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. We'll post the new version here with new dates at the top. If a change is material, we'll tell current clients by email or in the portal before it takes effect. Changes don't affect a return already filed under an earlier engagement.
