Privacy Policy
Effective: October 23, 2026 · Last updated: October 23, 2026
This policy explains what information Lawson Mobile Tax collects, how we use and protect it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. We don't sell your personal information, and we use your tax return information only as federal law allows.
1. Information we collect
Lawson Mobile Tax is operated by Lawson Mobile Tax LLC. We work virtually: online, through our client portal and by phone, or by video if you prefer. In-person mobile visits are an optional paid add-on for clients who need them, such as elderly clients, available only where the assigned preparer is located. This policy covers our website, client portal, intake forms, emails, texts and calls.
Information you give us
- Contact details: name, mailing address, email and phone numbers.
- Tax information: Social Security or taxpayer identification numbers, dates of birth, filing status, dependents, income and deduction documents (such as W-2, 1099 and 1098 forms), prior-year returns, IRS and state letters, IRS Identity Protection PINs, and identity-verification details.
- Refund and payment details: bank account and routing numbers for direct deposit or tax payments, and payment details for our fees (see Payments).
- Your choices: whether you agreed to our terms, emails, texts, AI calls or any optional section 7216 consent, with the date, time, wording version and page where you gave it.
- Referral details: a referral code, and contact details you give us about someone you refer.
Information from texts, calls and emails
- Texts: your mobile number, messages to and from us, delivery status, and opt-in and opt-out records.
- Calls: your phone number; the date, time and length of calls; voicemails; and computer-generated transcripts or summaries of calls on our phone lines, including calls with our AI assistant (see Phone calls and our AI assistant).
- Emails: messages you send us and your subscribe and unsubscribe choices.
Information collected automatically
- IP address, browser and device type, pages visited, and the date and time of visits and form submissions. Our forms record the date, time and IP address of a submission so we have a record of your consents.
- Cookies and similar tools (see Cookies and analytics).
2. How we use your information
- To prepare, review, e-file and support your federal and state tax returns.
- To schedule appointments, send reminders, ask for missing documents and answer your questions.
- To verify your identity and protect you and us from fraud and identity theft.
- To bill for our services and keep the records the law requires.
- To send the emails and texts you agreed to.
- To run our referral program.
- To keep our website and systems working and secure.
- To follow the law and respond to lawful requests.
We use your tax return information for anything other than preparing your return only as described in section 3.
Emails
- Emails about your appointments, documents and filing status are part of our service.
- Tax tips and reminder emails are optional. You get them only if you check the unchecked box that reads "Yes, email me tax tips and reminders about my tax return from Lawson Mobile Tax." You don't need to check it to use our services. We record when you checked it and the wording you saw.
- Every tips email includes our postal address and a way to unsubscribe. We honor unsubscribe requests within 10 business days.
- Signing up for tips emails doesn't let us use your tax return information to offer you other services. That would need a separate section 7216 consent.
3. Your tax return information (section 7216)
Federal law (Internal Revenue Code section 7216 and Treasury Regulations section 301.7216) protects the information you give us to prepare your return.
- Preparing your return. We use your information, and share it with the IRS, state tax agencies, and the tax software and e-file services that help us file, to prepare and file your return and as the law otherwise allows.
- Social Security and taxpayer identification numbers. We ask for them because tax returns must include them. We use them only to prepare and file your return, including the identity checks the IRS and states require for e-filing, and we protect them as described in How we protect your information.
- Anything else needs your separate consent. We won't use your tax return information for other purposes, such as offering you another service, without a signed consent to use. We won't give it to anyone else, such as a lender or a person who referred you, without a separate signed consent to disclose.
- Always optional. You can say no. Saying no doesn't change your return, your price or our service. If we ask for a consent, we show it to you as its own form during intake, and checking a box alone never counts as consent. Each consent tells you what will be used or shared, with whom, and for how long. If a consent doesn't say how long, it lasts one year from the date you sign it.
- Changing your mind. To cancel a signed section 7216 consent, email [email protected] or call (855) 722-8700 and tell us which consent you want to cancel. We will confirm in writing.
- We never sell tax return information, and we never use it for website or social media advertising.
If you believe your tax return information has been disclosed or used improperly in a manner unauthorized by law or without your permission, you may contact the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA) by telephone at 1-800-366-4484, or by email at [email protected].
4. Our duties under the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act
Federal law treats tax preparation businesses as financial institutions under the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act. For you, that means:
- We give you this privacy notice when you become a client, and we ask you to confirm you received it during intake.
- We protect your information under a written information security program that follows the FTC Safeguards Rule (see How we protect your information).
- We share your nonpublic personal information with companies outside Lawson Mobile Tax only as that law allows: with service providers working for us, as needed to complete what you asked for, with your consent or at your direction, and as the law requires or permits. Because we don't share it in other ways, the law doesn't require us to offer an opt-out. If that changes, we'll send you a new notice and a chance to opt out before we share.
5. When we share information
We don't sell your personal information. We share it only as follows.
- Service providers that work for us under written agreements requiring them to protect it and use it only to serve us. These include tax preparation software and e-file providers; secure portal and intake form providers; our client records system (Kuzzi); our phone provider; our text message and AI voice assistant provider (Bland AI); and video meeting, email, payment, website hosting and AI providers (Abacus.AI), and secure storage providers.
- Formality Pro, Inc. is a separate company also owned by our owner. Formality Pro may handle your information only to provide tax software or filing services to us, under a written agreement, and never for its own marketing. We don't share your information with Formality Pro for any other purpose, and it doesn't get our client or referral lists.
- Tax agencies such as the IRS and state tax departments, when we file for you or respond for you with your permission.
- Banks that offer refund products, only if you apply for one and sign a section 7216 consent to disclose for it.
- People you ask us to share with, after you sign a consent to disclose.
- When the law requires it, such as a valid subpoena or court order, or to protect against fraud or security threats.
- If our business changes hands, the new owner must keep protecting your information under this policy and federal law.
All the above categories exclude text messaging originator opt-in data and consent; this information won't be shared with any third parties.
Referral program
- If you refer someone, you give us their name and contact details. We use them only to run the referral program. We don't contact a referred person first; they contact us.
- We won't tell you whether a person you referred became a client or filed a return, and we won't send a reward that reveals it, unless that person signs a separate, optional section 7216 consent. Their price and service are the same either way.
- If you share your referral link and may get a reward, you must tell the people you share it with.
- Referral information is never shared with Formality Pro, Inc. or anyone else for their marketing.
6. How we protect your information
As a tax preparer, we follow the FTC Safeguards Rule through a written information security program. It includes:
- A team in charge of the program (our Compliance team) and regular risk reviews.
- Access controls, so only people who need your information for their work can get to it.
- Encryption of client information when it travels over the internet (our website uses HTTPS).
- Multi-factor sign-in for anyone who uses systems holding client information.
- A secure portal for documents. We don't accept tax documents or ID numbers by regular email or text.
- Intake forms that don't save your Social Security number, date of birth, ID or bank details in your web browser.
- Oversight of our service providers and regular security training for our team.
- Secure disposal of information we no longer need (see How long we keep information).
- Monitoring and an incident response plan. If a security event affects your information, we'll notify you and the authorities as the law requires, including the Federal Trade Commission for larger events.
No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information.
7. Text messages
Texts are optional. We text you only if you agree, for example by checking an unchecked box on one of our forms. Agreeing to texts is not a condition of purchase.
- Texts come from Lawson Mobile Tax through a dedicated Lawson Mobile Tax texting line. That line is for texts only; to talk to us, call (855) 722-8700.
- Tax return texts: appointment reminders, document requests, deadline reminders and return status updates.
- Message frequency varies. Msg & data rates may apply. Reply STOP to cancel or HELP for help. To stop texts you can also call (855) 722-8700. We also honor other clear requests to stop.
- We send texts only Monday through Friday, between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m. your local time, and only during our business hours (8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Eastern). We may reply outside these hours when you text us first.
- No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. We don't sell, rent or share your mobile number or text opt-in with anyone for their marketing. Our text provider uses your number only to deliver our messages.
- We'll never ask for your Social Security number, IP PIN, bank details or passwords by text. Please use your secure portal for documents.
Full details are in our Text Message Terms, including how to stop texts.
8. Phone calls and our AI assistant
- Our only public phone number is (855) 722-8700.
- Our AI assistant. Some calls may be handled by Mia, our AI assistant. Mia is an automated voice, not a person. It tells you it's an AI at the start of the call. It doesn't give tax advice, doesn't promise refunds, and doesn't take your Social Security number, IP PIN or bank details by phone. You can ask for a person at any time.
- AI calls we make to you. We place AI voice calls to you only if you've given us prior written permission for that kind of call, and only about the topic you agreed to. To stop them, say "stop calling" or use the opt-out option the call gives you, tell us any other way, or call (855) 722-8700. We'll add your number to our do-not-call list.
- Transcripts and call logs. Calls on our phone lines, including calls handled by our AI assistant, are transcribed for our team: they are turned into a written transcript or summary. We use transcripts for accuracy, quality and training. Call logs and texts, including call transcripts and summaries, are kept for 90 days.
- Calls we start are placed only Monday through Friday, between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m. your local time, and only during our business hours (8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Eastern), unless you ask us to call at another time. We keep a do-not-call list.
9. Cookies and analytics
- Necessary cookies and browser storage. We use cookies that keep you signed in and keep your session secure; the portal doesn't work without them. Our site also stores a few settings in your own browser so pages load and work as expected. We don't use these to track you.
- Analytics: we don't use third-party website analytics tools.
- Advertising pixels: we don't use advertising or social media tracking pixels.
- Tracking across other websites: we don't allow third parties to collect information about your online activities over time and across different websites through our site, with one exception: our preparer training page includes an embedded AI study assistant provided by Abacus.AI, which may collect device and usage information under its own privacy policy.
- Website chat: our website chat assistant is our own tool. Messages you type are processed by our website and AI provider (Abacus.AI) to answer you. Please don't type Social Security numbers or tax details into website chat.
- Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control: We do not currently respond to Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control browser signals. You can still use the choices listed in this policy.
10. Payments
We take card payments for our fees through our payment processor, Square. Square is the only payment processor we use. Your full card number goes to Square, not to us. If you choose and qualify, you can pay our fee from your refund through a bank product offered through Refund Advantage; the bank handles that payment under its own terms. We never have your tax refund deposited into a Lawson Mobile Tax account.
11. How long we keep information
We keep information only as long as we need it to serve you and as long as the law requires. Then we securely destroy it by secure deletion of electronic records and cross-cut shredding of paper.
| Record | How long we keep it |
|---|---|
| Copies of returns, e-file authorizations and supporting documents | 3 years, or longer if required by law |
| Section 7216 consent forms | 3 years |
| Terms, privacy notice, email, text, call and AI call consent and opt-out records | 3 years |
| Call logs and texts, including call transcripts and summaries | 90 days |
| Payment records | 3 years |
| Training records | 3 years |
Records are kept in our client management system for 3 years. After that, they are securely deleted or kept on file where the law or a legitimate business need requires.
As the FTC Safeguards Rule requires, we dispose of customer information no later than two years after we last used it to serve you. The exceptions are information needed for business operations or another legitimate business purpose, information the law requires us to keep, and cases where targeted disposal isn't reasonably feasible.
12. Lawson Certified training
Lawson Certified is our own internal training program. It is not an IRS credential, license or endorsement. It is included with our preparer packages. Every package includes the same full academy access once enrollment is complete. The package terms are in our Terms of Service. If you join a preparer package, we collect your contact details, application and enrollment records, the package you chose, your W-9 information and PTIN, your signed preparer agreement (with its version, date and time, IP address and device details), package fee payment records (paid through Square), your monthly revenue-split statements, and your course progress. We use them to run the program and your package. Training uses sample data, never real client information.
13. Your rights and choices
- See or correct your information. Ask for a copy of the contact and account information we hold about you, or ask us to fix anything that's wrong.
- Deletion. Ask us to delete your information. We'll delete what we can, but we must keep some records for the periods the law requires.
- No sale. We don't sell your personal information. You can still send us a verified request not to sell it, using the contact options below. We respond within 60 days.
- Emails. Use the unsubscribe link in any tips email, or reply to it.
- Texts. Reply STOP to any text, or call us.
- Calls and AI calls. Tell us, or our AI assistant, that you don't want calls, or ask for a person.
- Section 7216 consents. Say no to any optional consent. To cancel one you signed, see section 3.
- Other state rights. Some state laws give residents more rights. Where such a law applies to us and to you, we'll honor those rights.
- We won't treat you differently for using any of these choices.
To make a request, call (855) 722-8700 or email [email protected]. We'll verify your identity before acting. Never email your full Social Security number. We'll answer within 30 days.
14. Children and minors
Our website, text programs and AI calls aren't meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them online. When a parent or guardian gives us a dependent's information for a return, we protect it like all client tax information. We review returns for clients under 18 case by case as part of our due diligence process. The fee is typically $199, the same as our student returns.
15. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll post the new version here and update the dates at the top. If a change is material, we'll also tell clients by email or in the portal before it takes effect. If a change affects how we use information you already gave us, we'll ask for your consent where the law requires it.
